Anne Wood Wilkinson Wampler
Anne Wood Wilkinson Wampler lost her brief but brave battle with cancer on July 17, 2012.
She was the daughter of the late Rhodrick H. and Dorothy Gentry Wood. She was born on January 15, 1931 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. She attended Roanoke Rapids Junior/Senior High School, graduating in 1949. After graduating, she attended Smithdeal Massey Business College in Richmond, VA. She retired from Carolina Telephone/Sprint after 24 years of service.
Anne was a lifetime member of Rosemary Baptist Church and sang in the Chancel Choir there for over 30 years. She was also very active with the XYZ group there, serving as president.
Anne had so many gifts and talents, but perhaps her greatest gift was her beautiful voice. She was a founding member of the Lakeland Singers and performed with them for 25 years, up until the time of her death. She also served the city of Roanoke Rapids on the Beautification Committee. The other unique gift that she possessed was her ability to be a friend to all and a stranger to none. She loved life and lived it to the fullest.
After a fairytale courtship, which began in 2008, she married a former friend, Dallas W. Wampler. She moved to Richmond, VA where they enjoyed four beautiful and fun years. She is survived by her husband, Dallas W. Wampler, of the home. Her daughter, Elizabeth Hope and her husband, Donny, of Raleigh, N.C and their daughter, Anne-Graham Hope. Her brother, Rhodrick H. Wood, Jr., of Leesburg, VA and niece, Meredith M. Wood, also of Leesburg, VA. Two step-daughters, Anne Faszewski and her husband, Ray, and Mary Hall and her husband, Lee, and four step-grandchildren, Matthew and Rebekah Faszewski and Emily and Lindsey Hall; all of Richmond, VA.
Funeral service will be held at Rosemary Baptist Church on Friday at 11:30 a.m. with Dr. Layne Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral Services in Roanoke Rapids and other times expressions of sympathy can be received at the home of the Kigers, One Longstreet, Weldon, NC.
